What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese term combining the word for Spirit, Rei - pronounced “ray”, and the word for energy, Ki – pronounced “key”.  It has been described as Universal Energy, the energy of all that is.  We are all combinations of energy.  Our own human energy can be filled with action and vitality or slow down to entropy and illness.  Reiki, practiced as a healing form, acesses the highest vibration and focuses universal energy to revitalize our body, mind and spirit.  I believe it is the energy of unconditional love and well being.

During a Reiki session my clients lie comfortably and fully clothed on a Reiki table as I gently place my hands on or above the body from head to toe.  I often focus on the major energetic centers, chakras, and concentrate on any areas of discomfort my client points out.  At times I include a guided meditation to help with relaxation.  If requested, Reiki can be used with a positive affirmation to help with specific issues such as stopping smoking or balancing eating and exercise.  After sessions clients have said they feel relaxed and at ease.  Aches and pains are often relieved as the Reiki does its work by increasing the client’s own innate healing ability.  Reiki will work for the highest good revitalizing, balancing and healing body, mind and spirit.

Anyone can learn and practice Reiki on themselves and others.    Usui Reiki Ryoho (URR) is the method of hands-on healing rediscovered and developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 1900s.  His commitment to share this method with the world brought Reiki to the West via Hawayo Takata who trained 22 Reiki Masters a few years before her death in 1980.  Since then Reiki has spread world-wide.  URR is an attunement and symbol based system.  A simple attunement given by the Reiki Master Teacher lines up and opens the energy pathways in the student to allow more access to the Reiki energy.  The passing of energy from the Reiki Master teacher to the student is the energy lineage that goes back to Mikao Usui.  Please see my lineage listed below.  Three to four Reiki class levels are usually taught with each class attunement amplifying the Reiki energy.  In Level II and Level III the four Reiki symbols are taught.  Each Reiki symbol holds a different energetic vibration the practitioner can focus for healing. Classes are available throughout the year.  To schedule a class please contact me by phone or email.

What is Gendai Reiki?

Gendai means modern in Japanese.  Gendai Reiki is a method for healing developed by Hiroshi Doi.  Sensei Doi has combined the healing techniques of western Usui Reiki taught by Hawayo Takata and Usui Reiki Ryoho methods taught in Usui’s original society in Japan.  He also added techniques that he learned and developed from his own extended study of alternative healing methods.  Gendai Reiki focuses on the search for inner peace and enlightenment, noted as the original intent of Sensei Usui.  It includes many meditation practices, including those used by the original Usui society today.  I have found that being attuned to Gendai Reiki has deepened my spiritual practice, broadened my healing techniques and amplified my ability to facilitate the Reiki energy.  I recommend Hiroshi Doi’s book, Iyashino Gendai Reiki-ho, Modern Reiki Method for Healing, published by Fraser Journal Publishing, for an in-depth overview of his methods and training. Gendai Reiki is also an attunement/symbol based method that anyone can learn with the energy lineage passing from teacher to student.  Please see below for my lineage.   Classes are available throughout the year.  Please contact me for schedules and times.
